Which option is best suited for windows?
Hi,

I would like to test DSS on Windows. What's the best option?

Data Science Studio currently cannot be installed on Windows. If you cannot install it on a Linux or Mac OS X computer, here are the best available options:

  • Request a 14 day free online trial (hosted by Dataiku).

  • Install the Community Edition on an AWS instance. It is an easy install.

  • Set-up a VM on Windows (with VirtualBox for example), install Linux (Ubuntu 14.04 x86_64 works fine), and install DSS on it. According to various feedbacks I had, it can take 1 to 2 hours for the complete installation.

  • Install DSS with Docker. Be aware this is a beta feature. But this is probably an easier option than the previous one.

Remember that while DSS is supposed to be installed on a Linux (or Mac) server, you can actually use it from Windows as you connect to DSS from your browser (Chrome or Firefox).

EDIT 13th August 2015:

Docker released yesterday a new tool for Windows: Docker Toolbox. Now, the installation of DSS on Windows via Docker is much more easier. You can find a tutorial here.
