MariaDB is a fork of MySQL which was sold to Oracle. MariaDB Server is one of the world’s most popular open source relational databases and is available in the standard repositories of all major Linux distributions. At the moment MariaDB connections are possible using MySQL as the driver but there are compatibility issues doing so. This idea is to fully support MariaDB as read and write database.
