Allow the creation of data collections directly from "connections"

We would like to create data collections directly from the tables available in different SQL connections. Currently, version 12.0.0, this can be done only by importing first the tables into a Project, and then sharing the created datasets.
This will help us to have users accessing the data directly from the connections, and not generating dependencies with other projects. Dependencies with other projects are not a problem for self-service instances, but when we want to operationalize a project, and move bundles from development to production, going through testing and pre-production, it becomes a burden to have to export at the same time other projects.
