Hi London! Is anyone heading to any of the talks at the Data Science Festival this month? Personally (and this may not come as much of a surprise) I'm excited to hear from Veronika Belokhvostova of Facebook about using Data to foster healthy and safe Community spaces tomorrow. There are tons of talks on a wide swath of data science topics - so there is sure to be something up your street.

As some of you already know Dataiku user groups are spaces for discussion that are designed to be run by users for the betterment of users.
This is possible due to the participation of voluntary users, who dedicate their time and energy to promote these discussions and connections. More specifically, the role of User Group Leads includes:
Coordinate one event per quarter, central London area as soon as the situation allows,
Post event announcements and recaps on the group online,
Act as a point of contact for users, in connection with Dataiku to grow the group!
I and the broader Community team support these users with the contacts, best practices, tools, and any other necessary support.

Thanks to all of you who joined us for the first event of the London User Group! Josh Cooper (Data Scientist at Dataiku) presented a image classification project. Users also had the opportunity to connect with each other as well as quiz Josh on the intricacies of the project.
With today’s abundance of recyclable materials, it’s more important than ever to make sure that we’re getting rid of our waste responsibly. We took a look at a Dataiku DSS project that tries to help with that.
Josh showed how to get a pre-trained image classification model retrained using owned data, and how to get this model to identify different recyclable materials on the fly, through a laptop camera, using a custom webapp.
