Our company is large, with over 30,000 employees across 26 countries. FPT Software is an outsource software company, so finding the best employee for a project is challenging for the project manager. Resource management is a big problem that we face monthly and quarterly.
One factor that helps the project manager deal with resource problems is the skills of each employee in charge. FPT Software has a system to record the skills of each employee, but not managers. Managers have to scan each profile or CV of the employee to assign them to a suitable project. Besides, each employee doesn’t know which skills they should learn or improve to reach their desired career path.
With Dataiku, we planned to upload data from the on-premise database of all employees (personal information, skills, certificates, career path, etc.). Dataiku supplies us with a lot of value. Its recipes and statistic pages make it easier to aggregate information related to resources and skills and group skills into categories. Then we can balance the need and the supply and plan for future recruitment strategies.
Dataiku also supplies a database that is easy to interact with. It helps us easily filter, search, and find the right person for a specific project, either to be in charge or fill a support role.
With specific projects, sometimes we need to find the right person to ask for consultation or technical support for the short term. For upskilling, we can build simple recommendations to return skills and courses that employees should learn and improve to fit into their future plans.
This project is a major achievement, automating laborious tasks previously done in spreadsheets, increasing the scale and frequency of analytics, and delivering self-service analytics capabilities in a governed, standardized way.
