Business Challenge:
One of our customers in the Process industry faced a challenge with their demand planning cycle, having to forecast about 3000 DFUs each month. Their current process was error-prone, demanded considerable effort from a large group of planners, and did not deliver the desired results in terms of accuracy.
Consequently, significant money was left on the table across their supply chain (considering the knock-on impact on production and inventory).
Business Solution:
We built a robust data pipeline in Dataiku, using a combination of out-of-the-box recipes and in-house developed plugins. This covers the end-to-end flow from data submission through data validation, feature generation, and producing the final forecast. The process is fully automated: data is automatically processed, and one of our colleagues is alerted when the final result is available.
Value Generated:
Our customer now enjoys a robust, repeatable process that guarantees a timely, high-quality forecast and frees up the planner’s time to focus on high-value activities. Their broader supply chain benefits from the resulting production and inventory savings. Accuracy improved for both shorter and longer time lags. For instance, the 4-weeks forecast improved by 22 percentage points.
